Theory Of The Detector:

According to the different sensors used, carbon monoxide alarm is generally divided into catalytic combustion type, infrared type, semiconductor type and so on.

The sensor of catalytic combustion type carbon monoxide alarm consists of a pair of catalytic combustion type detection elements: one element is very sensitive to carbon monoxide gas (coated with multi-layer catalyst); the other element is not sensitive, which is used to compensate for environmental temperature changes. This pair of detection elements and another pair of high accuracy resistors form Wheatstone bridge. When carbon monoxide gas is mixed with air and contacts with the detection element, oxidation reaction (flameless combustion) is caused on the surface of platinum wire. The heat generated by the combustion makes the temperature of the platinum wire rise, so that the resistance changes, resulting in the imbalance of the bridge and the generation of electrical signals. The sensor converts the analog signal into digital signal through digital analog and displays it on the concentration indicator. When the concentration reaches a certain level, the connected alarm device will give an alarm.

Infrared carbon monoxide alarm uses infrared to each kind of gas has a specific absorption spectrum, through measuring the infrared absorption intensity of the gas to be measured to achieve gas concentration detection. A beam of infrared light passes through the comparison chamber (containing a specific gas) and a measuring chamber (passing through the gas to be measured). After passing through the gas to be measured, the infrared radiation will be absorbed by the gas, and the energy attenuation will occur at the corresponding spectral line, and the unabsorbed radiation will be received by the thermoelectric detector. The concentration of gas can be calculated by measuring the attenuation of infrared radiation energy.

The principle of semiconductor carbon monoxide gas alarm is to use the semiconductor material to absorb gas, and its resistivity changes significantly. The semi conductive carbon monoxide sensor is used as the sensitive element to detect the gas content.
